Adidas KOTR 2010

This was Adidas' 3rd King of the Road run and we were excited to join. Paying Php850 was a bit high but when we read that there would be a buffet breakfast, we thought that the registration fee would be ok. The race packet contained an adidas singlet, race bib, timing band/RFID, route map, and rules.

It's Oct 24, 2010 and we woke up at 330am, slipped into our running attire, sip a cup of milo and grabbed our food and frozen fruit juice. We were excited and would like to arrive as early as possible to get a good parking space.

When we arrived at the Fort, we parked at our favorite spot near Honda Showroom; took some souvenir photos even if it's still dark.

Some booths were already opened and distributing some freebies. While waiting for gun time, i queued to get some give aways--women's health magazine, colgate plax, headband, samples from Body Shop. My kids didnt want to get some stuff so they just waited for me.

What is this!!! was this the buffet breakfast we're waiting for? Summing it up, this just cost less than P50 .

Since this is the 3rd KOTR, i am expecting more from the organizer. Also this was my 10th run and i pretty know what factors make a running event successful. I rate this event 5 , 10 being the highest. (still on top of my list--Neutrogena and Unilab1)

Here are my observations:
1) Insufficient staff at the baggage counter--the queue was soooo long that the 21k/10k race had started and yet many runners were still in line to deposit their bags/backpacks.
2) insufficient hydration -- while it is the responsibility of a runner to prepare for his hydration especially for the 21k, organizer should have provided enough water stations. while there were sponsors for the hydration, the organizer seemed not mindful whether hydration was enough.
3) not enough marshalls to guide the runners. Some runners were out of path, making short cuts; a lot of 5k runners were running head on with 10k runners because of crowded pathways
4) buffet breakfast--where? huh --gosh the breakfast in styropore consisted of one big hotdog, 2 pandesal, a butter and jam--so this is it? we were expecting at least tapa or ham and egg.

Good thing the weather cooperated; good thing there was UST pep squad; good thing it was an adidas singlet.

will i ever join 2011 KOTR? at Php600 max , yes; but at Php850 never...

Activate! Run and Pump it UP 08.29.2010

UP Activate! Run and Pump it Up

Venue: UP Academic Oval, Diliman

This is my 9th fun run and my daughter's 3rd. I registered for 5k while my daughter registered for 3k. This would be our first time to run on this track. We were used to the pavement of Fort and Mall of Asia and we were excited.

The venue was cool, literally. Lots of trees and greenfields. There were early sunday runners as well. The academic oval is usually closed to traffic on weekend morning because there are so many joggers and bikers.

Anyway, the event started late. There were still on going registration during the race day and this was delaying the start of the 10k. This was a student organized event so we're not expecting too much.

The proceeds of this event would go to the striving coffee farmers of Batangas. The funds would help the farmers procure solar powered water pumping system.

The start/finish line was in front of Palma Hall. It was quite easy to reach the place as long as you know how to ask for directions.

Although my daughter is a UP alumae, she studied in Manila campus and not so familiar with Diliman campus. Luckily, we were able to find a nice parking space.

Gosh I need to pee and sadly, there were only two portalets--one each for male and female. I had to toe the line and by the time my turn came, they were already calling the 5k runners.

To brighten the race, there was a runner dressed as Zorro and he added some comedy to the race. I heard that he even kissed the ground prior to the run.

so off i go...next was the 3k runners. they were only a handful , about 50 runners.
My daughter ran ahead of her group.Since there were only few 3k runners, she's embarrassed to be left behind. Lo and behold, after 50 meters, most of the runners were already walking so she walked. She told me she was just waiting for somebody to walk first before she did.

my daughter was already exhausted here..

After 2 laps, my run was finished. I joined my daughter and son for the last shoots.

This was the baller given by one of the sponsors--Enervon.

till the next run and blog...

Rexona Run 08.01.10

Date: 08.01.2010
Venue: SM Mall of Asia

Rexona run turned out to be a family affair -with zsa, patrick ,my sis and me present during the race.

Organized by runrio we only expect the best. A new timing chip was introduced in this run. Organizer claimed that this is being used in international marathons.

We arrived at SM Mall of Asia 45mins before our actual run. Patrick ran 5k, while we, girls, ran 3k.

There were lots of freebies--shampoo, conditioner, bottled water, gatorade, popsicle , nature valley power bars.
I brought my DLSR to capture post race poses. Unfortunately, there were no photovendo pics for 3K and 5K; i read that photovendo was contracted only for 10K & 21K.

In my rough calculation (based on the results), the event grossed Php4.4M!!! with this sum, 3k and 5k should have been included in the photovendo. Maybe, the budget for the 3k & 5K photos were alloted for additional ambulance and water station expenses.

The death in the 34th Milo Marathon Manila Elims may have prompted the organizer to get more ambulance, marshalls and water stations.

Overall, the Rexona Run was great, well organized..

Earth Run 2010, 04.18.2010

One of my cheap ways of keeping healthy is to walk and/or jog. So i have this goal to participate in one fun run per month in 2010 (if it's not raining). I had one in January and March, none in February. For April, i joined the Earth Run held at Bonifacio High Street, Taguig. I was able to convince my daughter, sister and bro-in-law to run with me. We all registered for the 3K run.
On the day of the race, we woke up late at 415am and hurried up to make the 525am call time for 3K. We met my sister and her husband and took some photos via our cellphones. We were all excited as this was their first time to participate in a fun run.

As the organizer called the 3K participants, we joined the other runners behind the starting line. The gun fired and runners began to run. Since there was no timing chip provided and no separate timer for each category , we had to take note of our start and finish time.
After 20 mins and 10 secs, i crossed the 3k finish line. My daughter and sister clocked at 32 mins +. Am not sure of my brother-in-law's time. After changing clothes, we went to Mcdonald's for the much needed carbo-loading. We had so much fun and vowed to do it again..Nature Valley run!!
